It would be remiss of me not to mention something about the Melbourne Storm today, especially with the results of their audit widely available.
I don't understand people's reaction with the storm. They cheated. There is no excuse for that. And it's not as if it was a couple of thousand dollars over, they were 3.2 million over. That's a big amount especially considering the cap this year is 4.1.
Yes the penalties were harsh but they fit the crime. They should never have had the team they had together on the field.
The salary cap is there for a reason, it's to ensure that there's a level playing field and each club is equal, otherwise you get a situation like English Premier League football where you have 4 big clubs, 5 now with the inclusion of Manchester City who have a lot of money and power and resources to attract big names to their clubs.
Everytime the Storm go out onto the field they are cheating so it's only right they play for no points. Yes I realise it's hard on the players but as they failed to cooperate with the audit we can't really be sure as to what they did and didn't know.
Even for rugby league players they must have known signing 3 contracts was a little dodgy...
